Hi Everyone:  With today's economy most restaurant owners are more then happy to listen to any new ideas that could help boost their restaurant sales and help better the economy for everyone.  For those of you who have read my past newsletters you know that we have found that during the Great Depression the companies who advertised the most flourished during the worst economic times in our history. Knowing this I am going to stick with the leaders and help restaurant owners to also follow success and advertise more then ever before. Over the next several Newsletters I will be sharing some creative ideas with you that will help you to decrease expenses, get you higher returns and fill your restaurants with customers.

True Story: I started one day giving little thank you rewards to my employees and I was stunned to see what happened.  Many of my employees were women and they were working really hard for me and I wanted to give them a little something to say thank you.  So I went down the street and bought some $20.00 gift certificates from a nail salon so they could treat themselves to a pedicure.  The next thing you know a few days later I looked up from my cash register and saw a room filled with Asain women smiling at me, they all came from the nail salon.  I realized at that moment that was the best twenty bucks I ever spent. That $20.00 just got me 20 new customers who worked at the salon and a hundred more new customers that the salon sent to my cafe over the next several years! The more gift certificates I purchased  in my community the happier my employees and the bonus was, my business grew more than I ever expected.

You can reward your employees, stimulate your community and drive customers right to your restaurant all at once. Instead of giving employees cash as a reward start doing business with other merchants in your community and purchase gift certificates from them in any amount. Purchase gift certificates at local merchant shops such as: Nail Salons, Gyms, a Bowling Alley, Grocery Store, Playhouse, Coffee Shop, Mom & Pop boutiques etc... choose things your employees would like. The local merchants will love the idea that you did business with them and they will want to do business with you too. Also your rewarded employee will be happy to let others know how they got the gift certificate and will invite people to come in and visit your restaurant. Works every time!

I am a firm believer that in the restaurant/hospitality industry that showing an employee how much they are appreciated is essential for an owner to have a successful restaurant. Many restaurant employees are servers which make up the sales force and they definitely need incentives to perform their best. Happy employees help create successful restaurants and the happier the better.  I found out by giving employees little thank you rewards, they in return give back ten fold and treat customers with the same kindness and respect.  Employees in the hospitality industry are very special people they are "people pleasers. " They work very hard to make others happy all of the time and that is why they need to frequently be recharged .  A little thank you reward makes them feel good about themselves and it makes them want to do more for others.  Many restaurants already have a rewards program in the budget and if you don't you may want to start one.  You can even think of the rewards program as part of your advertising campaign.
